How is the need for monitoring and, in the event of any failure, retrieval of waste foreseen?

We imagine the monitoring protocols for a Deep Isolation repository would best be governed by all of the relevant stakeholders involved in the process (e.g. government, regulators, scientific community, and host community).

Working with our partners we have developed and are developing options for monitoring both pre-closure and post-closure. We are confident that we can provide options to measure temperature, pressure, and radiation during all pre-closure activities. If monitoring is required post-closure or for a predetermined period of time after, we can provide options that fit the requirements for the host nation and regulators.
