World Nuclear Association Symposium 2021

Deep Isolation will present its latest research on deep borehole disposal at the International Conference on Radioactive Waste Management: Solutions for a Sustainable Future. The conference this November takes place in Vienna, Austria and is hosted by the IAEA.

This webinar presents an update to the results from the post-closure safety calculations for a generic deep horizontal borehole repository, specifically focusing on the sealing of the repository. The calculations are not derived from a specific geographic location or geological site. Generic calculations are a valuable and necessary step in developing a safety analysis approach that will eventually support the safety assessment of a deep horizontal borehole repository.

Deep Isolation begins the presentation with a brief company overview and a description of the purpose and importance of developing generic and site-specific models of the repository system and why we focused this set of calculations on the essential engineered safety components of backfilling and sealing of the borehole. Stefan Finsterle provides an overview of the report and the significance of the findings.

Waste Management Symposia 2022

Deep Isolation will present three different topics on borehole disposal at WM Symposia 2022. In Monday’s session, “Developments in Deep Borehole Disposal Around the World,” Ethan Bates will present, “Preliminary Technology Readiness Assessment of Deep Borehole Disposal,” and Chris Parker will present, “Implementing Deep Borehole Disposal: Study of International Stakeholder Views from Regulatory, Policy & WMO Communities.” On Wednesday, March 9th, Rod Baltzer will join a roundtable discussion on, “Evolution and Development for Waste Transport and Disposal,” with his paper, “Canisters for Radioactive Waste Transport, Storage and Disposal in Boreholes.”

2022 ANS Annual Meeting

Ethan Bates, Director of Systems Engineering for Deep Isolation will be presenting the paper “Features, Events, and Processes Prioritization for Deep Borehole Disposal Concepts in Crystalline Rock and Shale,” in the session, Waste Stabilization and Repository Science on Wednesday, June 15, at the ANS Annual Meeting in Anaheim, CA.

2022 Asian Leadership Conference

The co-founders of Deep Isolation will discuss their technology and business model at a panel on Spent Nuclear Fuel and High-Level Wastes at this week’s 13th Asian Leadership Conference in Seoul. The panel is scheduled for July 13, 2022, and will be moderated by Hwang Il Soon, Chair Professor at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST).

Chris Parker, Managing Director for Deep Isolation EMEA will be presenting the paper, “Canisters for Radioactive Waste Transport, Storage and Disposal in Boreholes,” at the International Conference on Nuclear Waste Treatment, Packaging and Storage (ICNWTPS) in London, United Kingdom, as part of the digital program of Engineering and Physical Sciences Research, August 16-17, 2022.
